R;PPLE HOSPITALITY SUICIDE REPORT

R;pple, a suicide prevention charity, has released a report titled "The Dark Reality Behind the UK’s ‘Happy Hour’." The study finds that one in two hospitality workers - including chefs, bartenders, and front-of-house staff -have searched for harmful content while at work, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support in the industry.

THE SINGLE BIGGEST SHIFT: FEBRUARY 2024

To uncover the reasons behind high turnover, Planday surveyed 2,000 UK shift workers, including 1,000 Gen Z employees (aged 16-27) in the hospitality sector. The findings aim to help industry leaders understand the factors contributing to high churn rates and provide strategies to keep their employees happy and motivated.

Interim Report August 2023Peopleful has teamed up with MQ Mental Health Research and the WorkWell Research Centre at North West University to study workplace dynamics in the UK and Ireland. The goal is to create a framework that helps leaders build mentally healthy workplaces, enhancing employee wellbeing and boosting organizational performance.

HSE WORK-RELATED ILL HEALTH STATS- 2023

In 2022/23, nearly two million workers in Great Britain reported work-related ill health, with approximately half of these cases due to stress, depression, or anxiety. This marks an increase compared to pre-pandemic levels, highlighting a rise in mental health issues and resulting in an estimated 35.2 million lost working days. These statistics emphasize the urgent need for improved mental health support and workplace wellbeing initiatives.

Research by BRITA Professional and The Burnt Chef Project reveals that workplace friendships significantly enhance efficiency, productivity, customer service, and mental health, with over half of employees being more productive with their best friend, 46% improving customer service, 62% reducing stress, and 50% alleviating anxiety.

ALL HANDS-ON-DECK RETENTION SURVEY

The Burnt Chef Project surveyed (July 2021) 2,311 UK hospitality workers and found that 84% remain in the industry, with work-life balance being the top reason for leaving. Additionally, one in five plan to exit within the next year, 37% are undecided, and one-third of those who have left are considering returning. For more details, please view the full survey.

RETURN TO WORK SURVEY - JUNE 2020

We've completed a survey to give a brief insight into the general feeling of those who are due to return to work post COVID-19 lockdown. 

​

It was identified that furloughed employees would have benefited from increased levels of contact from their employers and a greater degree of clarity regarding the next steps of the business.​
